Three dead after shooting at residence in Jackson County

Officers from Spring Arbor Township Police Department and troopers from the Michigan State Police Jackson Post responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on October 20, 2018 at 5:50 p.m. in the 5200 block of Moscow Rd., Spring Arbor Township, Jackson County.

Upon arrival at the residence, responding officers entered the home and found three people who had been shot. Gregory Heath (61 years old) and Curtis Sturgill (44 years old) were pronounced deceased at the scene. Katherine Sturgill, a 60-year old female was treated at the scene by Spring Arbor Rescue and Jackson Community Ambulance (JCA) personnel. She was transported by JCA to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson and was later pronounced deceased. All three of the deceased resided at the residence where the incident occurred. There are no suspects outstanding or at large. It is believed that Heath shot and killed Curtis Sturgill before shooting Katherine Sturgill. He then turned the gun on himself. The investigation continues, but investigators believe domestic and financial issues were primary motives. There was no known history of police contacts at the residence prior to the incident.

Troopers and detectives were assisted at the scene by Spring Arbor Township Police Department, Spring Arbor Township Rescue personnel, Jackson Community Ambulance, and members of the MSP Lansing Crime Lab. The incident remains under investigation.
