Thousands gathered outside the Michigan's state Capitol for the Women’s March for equal rights .
The peaceful demonstration was held in opposition to the hate crimes, violence, and discrimination that has resulted following the election.
Attendees stood in solidarity with marchers at the National Women’s March on Washington for the protection of American’s rights .
Both were one of many protests that occurred around the world.
“I am empowered,” says Women's March protester, Joan Gurns. “I feel good about bringing attention to what we are facing as a nation for the next four years. “
Those that attended the event gathered at the Capitol in peace.
They were not there to riot, but they only wanted to ensure justice.
“We are marching because so many of us are worried … many of us are scared, “says Gretchen Whitmer, Gubernatorial candidate and former State Legislator.
“If Trump is President all of my rights, women’s rights and all black people’s rights are stripped,” says Jasper Fedewa, Women's March protester.
“I want Congress to know it’s their responsibility to hold President Trump accountable,” says Sue Siwek, Women’s March attendee.
Women's March Event co-coordinator, Chad Guerrant says this is only the beginning and the team hopes to have more events in the future.
