A Lansing Boy Scouts Troop is trying to rebuild after a trailer with all its camping gear and other equipment is stolen.
A trailer filled with camping supplies by Troop 111 was stolen from the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church on Delta River Drive sometime last week. Troop leaders tell WILX, someone cut the locks and towed the trailer away.
The trailer was found Tuesday in Portland. Troop leaders posted on Facebook that the thief or thieves apparently sold it to a Portland resident who wasn't aware the trailer had been stolen. Troop leaders got the trailer back, but it was completely empty. The thieves had stripped it completely. Police are investigating.
Bob Benezette, Committee Chair for Troop 111, says "We just hate to see a bunch of kids not able to do boy scouting like they have been." Benezette says, "it hurts that much more when you're doing good for kids and their equipment is gone, and you can't do what's good for kids".
Troop leaders say it will be hard to start over, but they are determined to rebuild. The group has set up page to raise donations. If you would like to help: https://squareup.com/store/boy-scout-troop-111-lansing-mi
