For those looking to buy a brand new home, or just wanting to look at interesting houses, the Lansing Parade of Homes is an exciting part of the year.
"The Parade of Homes is an annual event that's an opportunity for builders in the greater Lansing area to be able to show off their designs and the latest trends," says Jerry Fedewa, a participating home builder.
The trends can be extremely creative, like in Aaron Tobias' house on Ambler street.
"I try and point out what sets me apart in whatever way that I can," says Tobias. "I really try to reuse items when I can. Barn beams, distressed steel, old trim, old wood if I can."
The yearly opportunity is a great chance for home builders, and people coming to scope out new homes.
"The home builders association is a lot of professionals that get to put their work on display," says Tobias. "It's fun just to go take a look at a lot of them, even if it's not necessarily something you're planning on building right away."
But right now is a great time to build. Coming out of the recession, the home building market is beginning to pick up speed.
"Definitely the markets have taken back off, prices have improved, definitely houses have very much improved," says Fedewa.
The parade itself is indicative of that. Is recent years, the parade has only had a few houses shown, but this year 18 brand new houses were built and displayed.
The parade winds down Sunday for the first week, but will start back up Thursday evening. You can buy tickets at any MSU Credit Union branch for $10 and the proceeds will go to local charities.
