Imagine being booted out of your home after living there for years, all for what seem like pretty minor rule violations.
Some tenants at The Reserves mobile home park in Jackson County were told to fix up their places or get kicked out. But they say the threats didn't stop when the job was done.
"They're trying to kick us out and tear our houses down. That's their plan," Dennis LaRock said.
Dennis LaRock has has lived in The Reserves for the past four years. He says the problems started when he came home to a note in his door telling him to clean up his porch.
"It said that the stuff needed to be stored in the shed basically, but that's what my whole eviction notice was for....a tote with some toys in it," he said.
A few houses down, Brett LaRock and Bethani Birdsall, who are expecting a child, received a similar notice via email.
"Saying they wanted me to do certain things around the house, so I went and got them things done," Brett LaRock said.
Both tenants say they made the improvements, but were still told to move out by October 24th or be evicted. They believe the owners will say whatever it takes to get rid of them.
"They sent me the eviction notice before the limited time they gave me to do the stuff," Brett LaRock added.
There were several empty lots around the mobile home park, where residents say there used to be older model trailers. They told News 10 they are afraid that they might be next, leaving them with nowhere to go.
"It doesn't matter if we did what they ask, they want the older homes out of here. They are getting a lot more money to rent these new homes, so they are bringing new homes in," Dennis LaRock said.
"A lot of these people don't have any place to go ya know? You can't just kick people out on the street. We own these homes. Its scary, ya know?" Bethani Birdsall added.
The new owners have scheduled a meeting with the tenants for Friday. News 10 reached out to that company, Green Courte Partners to ask about the eviction threats. We'll let you know if if get a response.
The tenants FOX 47 News talked with are paying between $100 and $500 a month in rent. They say the new homes they'd have to move into to stay cost around $900 dollars a month, which is more than they can afford.
