LANSING, Mich. — Four local families are trying to put their lives back together after a fire broke out at their apartment building Thursday night.
One of the tenants, Terell Estelle, just moved into the five-unit home that caught fire Thursday night.
"Just moved in like two days ago, two days ago. So in the process we lost everything. We just got to work to get it back, that's all I can do right now," Estelle said.
The Red Cross was at the scene to help the families get back on their feet and find a temporary place to stay.
"Assistance can be lodging and or replacement of goods they may have lost, we also provide them with a comfort kit. It has a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, the everyday kind of things you need as well," Jim Philo, with the American Red Cross, said.
The landlord of the five-unit home said he is happy everyone got out safely.
"Everybody got out safe, the people and one cat, it was successful that way. The stuff is replaceable and the insurance will do what they need to do," Bob Bruton, the landlord said.
We reached out to the fire department to see how the fire started, but did not receive comment at this time.
