Romeo Rogers, 19, was born with scoliosis and spina bifida- a congenital disorder that keeps the spine from forming properly.
On Monday, Feb. 27, Rogers returned from a trip to Walmart to find his wheelchair missing from his front lawn.
"My wheelchair is very important to me," he said. " I use it every day."
Rogers said the wheelchair went missing from his home in the 700 block of Oakdale Avenue shortly after 1:00 p.m.
"My mom texted me at about 1:15 p.m. so I could help her with groceries," Rogers said. " I left my wheelchair on the side of the road."
"I was only gone for 10 or 15 minutes."
Rogers said he sometimes leaves his wheelchair in front of his home.
"It is easier for me," Rogers said. "I have never had a problem"
Rogers is currently using an old wheelchair which makes it hard for him to move around.
He hopes people will realize his wheelchair was not set outside as trash.
"I honestly just want it to be returned," he said. " I don't want anyone to get in trouble for it."
Jackson police say witnesses saw two white males driving a
tan pickup truck load up the wheelchair before driving away.
Lt. Christopher Simpson, of the Jackson police, says the investigation is still ongoing.
"We are looking for the suspects who took the wheelchair as well as the vehicle they were in," said Simpson.
