Teen charged for assaulting grandmother with bat over cellphone

The Jackson County Sheriff's office is reporting Thursday morning about a domestic assault that happened Wednesday evening.

Deputies responded to a call on Easton Road in Rives Township regarding an assault with a baseball bat.

A 58-year-old Jackson woman told the police that her 17-year-old grandson, Bret Goodnuff, had hit her several times with a baseball bat during an argument over a cellphone.

She was taken to the hospital for medical attention. She had injuries to her arms, head and back. She is in stable condition.

The grandson had left the scene on a bicycle. He was found by police and arrested. He's now facing assault charges.

Goodnuff has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder. Assault with Intent to Murder carries a maximum penalty of life. Bond was set at $250,000.

A preliminary examination is scheduled for October 19, 2017.
