LANSING, Mich. — The commute for many on Wednesday morning was a slow go.

There was snow, then sleet, then freezing rain making the drive tricky, even when the temps got into the low 40's and wipers were needed to deflect the raindrops.

FOX 47 sent out a team of dedicated news-tellers to show the conditions of the roads and how the weather was affecting the drive.

Darrin Rockcole warned us of snow and sleet transitioning into rain and said to take extra time getting to where you needed to go.

He said to expect rain throughout the morning mixed with snow and again, late in the afternoon.

Dozens of people lost power after a truck crashed into a pole at the intersection of Jolly and Cedar on Tuesday night.

And many cars were in ditches in the morning due to slick roads.

Many schools are closed throughout the area as well.

Our FOX 47 team experienced the slick roads and suggest everyone take the following safety steps before leaving the house:
- Slow down
- Leave twice the distance you normally would between you and the car in front of you
- Drive deliberate and slow
- As soon as you feel the vehicle sliding - turn into the slide

Throughout the Lansing area, FOX 47 saw snow filled roads and plows out, also some salt trucks.

If you see them, give them plenty of space to do their job.

Icy conditions have also grounded dozens of flights at Detroit Metro Airport.

Crews have worked through the night to de-ice the airfield and the planes.

Call first before heading to the airport.
