A judge has ordered the man charged with killing two people in Meridian Township to get a mental competency exam.

Ingham County Prosecutors say Manuel Pena killed Jeffrey Ballor and Kristin Pangman in a home on Lake Lansing Road January 21st. Police say they found him covered in blood the next day.

Pena refused to confirm his name during the arraignment. After the hearing, his attorney, David Feinberg said, "He's not here. He's not engaged. There's something wrong. So, you know, I've been doing this for a long time and I've sat with a lot of people, and when you have an attorney that visits you, typically there's an engagement there. There was none."

Pena will also get a Criminal Responsibility Evaluation. The results of his tests should be back in late April.
