LANSING, Mich. (WSYM) - A suspect was arrested after shooting at several police officers in three different areas on Lansing's south side.
It all started just after 10 a.m. Saturday when dispatchers received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of Martin Luther King Junior Blvd. and Mary Avenue. Dispatchers received a second call moments later from a victim indicating a resident at the 1200 block of Mary Ave. had been shot at by the suspect.
Shortly after 11 a.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Blvd. and Dunlap Street, a Lansing Police officer approached a man who fit the description from the earlier shooting.
As the officer approached the man, he began shooting. The officer was able to return to the vehicle and was not hurt in the exchange of gunfire.
The suspect then fled on foot northeast from the scene.
Multiple police departments from Metro Lansing then responded to the area. A Michigan State Police helicopter could be seen above searching the ground.
Around 12:20 p.m. police inside the helicopter were able to locate the suspect hiding in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Junior Blvd. Police described the area as an abandoned lumber yard.
The suspect was found hiding between a concrete barrier and a building.
As officers approached the suspect in tactical gear, the suspect began shooting at officers. Officers returned fire and hit the suspect several times.
Our crew on scene says at least 10-15 shots were fired.
Once the suspect stopped shooting at officers, they moved in and immediately performed "tactical and life-saving first aide" on the suspect.
"This individual put our community in harm's way today and I am extremely proud of the actions of our officers," Lansing Police Chief Michael Yankowski said.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is in critical but stable condition.
Police describe the suspect as a 25-year-old Lansing man.
No officers or citizens were hurt at either scene.
Lansing Police say their tactical vehicle has several bullet holes in it.
Three Lansing Police officers have been placed on administrative leave which is standard protocol until the investigation is complete.
Once the investigation is complete, the report will be will be sent to the Ingham County Prosecutors Office for review.
Martin Luther King Blvd. is closed near Holmes Road while police continue to process the crime scene. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area.
