Deputies were called for a vehicle that struck a mailbox and then fled the scene. When they investigated, they located the vehicle stuck in mud behind a barn at a nearby residence. Through their investigation, the vehicle was determined to be stolen from a home invasion that occurred.
The Eaton County Sheriff's Office reports that on Thursday, they were called of the reported suspicious vehicle.
The department reports that a second vehicle was recovered out of Jackson County and the suspect was in possession of items linking him to that stolen vehicle, as well.
The suspect has been identified as Donald Ray Phillips, 45, of Jackson. He is lodged at the Eaton County Jail and has been charged with unlawful driving away of an auto, operating a a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, possession of methamphetamine and leaving the scene of a hit-and-run accident.
He was given a $50,000 cash surety bond.
