A suspect has been charged in Saturday's shooting on Lansing's north side. Vernon Smith was arraigned Monday on 2 counts of attempted murder and 3 weapons charges.

Lansing police say Smith shot a 33-year-old man at an apartment complex on Waverly Road just south of Grand River Avenue. The victim was treated for gunshot wounds to both arms and is expected to live. Police say the two men knew each other. They tell fox47news.com Smith drove up to the victim and shot him near the entrance to the complex, then drove away. Smith was arrested Sunday in Battle Creek and was taken to Lansing to face charges.

Vernon Smith is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on Friday. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 21.
