ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WSYM) - The man caught on surveillance video attempting to carjack a woman at a Detroit area gas station was charged Saturday.

37-year-old Earl Larche III is charged with one count of felony carjacking. Larche is a habitual offender and was given his third notice.

Surveillance cameras were rolling just after 2 p.m. Thursday when Larche walked beside the victim’s car at a gas station on the corner of Southfield and Roosevelt Roads in Allen Park.

Larche casually walks by the victims car, opened the door and tries to speed away.

The victim immediately jumped into the passenger side of the car.

Police say the victim locked the car but kept it running as she pumped gas.

Thanks to the quick actions of a fuel tanker driver standing nearby, the situation was thwarted.

The Good Samaritan rushed over and wrestled Larche out of the car.

Larche was able to get away however more than 24 hours later he was arrested.

Witnesses say the truck driver is a true hero.
