Survivors upset over new USAG appointment

Posted

Due to the Larry Nassar scandal, USA Gymnastics has appointed a gymnastics coach to a top role in the organization and several survivors are voicing their anger on social media about the decision.

USAG appointed Mary Lee Tracy of Ohio as the new Elite Development Coordinator.

She's the current president and head coach at the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy, an elite training facility in Fairfield, Ohio.

However, in 2016 she defended Nassar after more than 50 women and girls had accused him of abuse.

Olympic Gold Medalist and Survivor Aly Raisman was one of the several survivors who took to twitter about Tracy's appointment.

She says, "USAG has appointed someone who supported Nassar."

The tweet goes on to say, "this is a slap in the face for survivors and further confirmation that nothing at USAG has changed."

As the new Elite Development Coordinator, Tracy will oversee the developmental pipeline for women's gymnastics.

She takes over for Tom Forster who stepped in as Interim Developmental Coordinator amid the Nassar scandal.
