A survivor of human trafficking shared her experiences with social workers at the Lansing Center Wednesday.
Leslie King, Founder and CEO of Sacred Heart Beginnings Women's Transitional Program, was one of the keynote speakers at the Michigan Social Worker Legislative Education and Advocacy Day.
After escaping the world of sexual exploitation, King started a home for other women trying to escape human trafficking. In order to fight the epidemic, King says the focus has to be on helping the victims.
"We all need to unite and come together to understand this epidemic, in every area of service -- social work, hospitals, governmental. We just need to unite."
Social workers also discussed other issues at the conference including hate speech and immigration reform.
