A suburban Detroit attorney who pleaded guilty to bribery in a case involving a federal agent has been sentenced to three years in prison.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Charles Busse was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn.
Busse also pleaded guilty in November to conspiracy to defraud the United States, tax evasion and failing to report payments of more than $10,000.
The court ordered Busse to pay $575,000 in unpaid taxes and penalties.
Busse of Birmingham was accused of paying bribes for deportation deferrals and other benefits for clients. He spent about 15 years on the Warren City Council.
Authorities have said Clifton Divers used his position as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations agent to obtain deportation deferrals and other benefits for non-citizen foreign nationals.
