A Jackson County student is in custody at the Youth Center after police say he threatened to shoot up his school and burn it to the ground.
Police in Columbia Township were made aware of the threats while investigating an altercation at the Columbia Central High School Fitness Center Thursday afternoon.
Officers were called there for a fight between three high school students and two junior high students. The fight was broken up by Columbia School District staff.
While investigating the fight, police learned one of the students had been making threats against the school and was taken into custody and lodged at the Youth Center.
The report on the incident is expected to be forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office to determine if charges should be filed in relation to the fight as well as the threats.
Police say the student had no apparent means to carry out such a threat, but all but incidents like that are always taken seriously and prosecution will be sought in each case where that happens.
