DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The driver of a stolen cement truck that crashed through a gate at a local GM facility, has been arrested after hiding out in a Menards earlier on Thursday.
Ingham County police say that at 5:40 a.m. they were dispatched to Schafer Redi-Mix on Eden Road for a report of a stolen cement truck.
While they were responding to that call, another call went out for a "disabled cement truck" on Cedar St. near Edgewood Boulevard.
Police say that the man driving the truck saw them and took off towards the Menards.
Lansing police, along with a K9 unit and sheriff's deputies, located the suspect on the property and took him into custody.
FOX 47 was on the scene and could see multiple patrol cars and police at the entrances to the store.
Employees were evacuated while the suspect was searched for.
He was taken without any incident.
The man is a 28-year-old from Stockbridge.
He was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
He may be facing charges in Eaton County for driving the cement truck to GM's Customer Care and Aftersales facility.
There he drove through a locked gate and hit several parked vehicles before taking off.
The incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. at the building located at 4400 W. Mt. Hope Highway.
The cement truck has since been recovered and police have the suspect in custody.
There were no injuries to report.
GM spokeswoman Erin Davis told FOX 47 that that the truck caused some damage to the automaker's property.
"We’re aware of the incident. While the trespassing truck created some damage to GM property, there were no injuries. We’ve notified local law enforcement of this incident."
The sheriff's office didn't say why the "male subject" drove the truck to Detroit-based GM's Customer Care and Aftersales facility.
Eaton County Sheriff said they are working with Ingham County and GM for the investigation.
