LANSING, Mich. — The state is looking for new ways to reduce substance abuse in Michigan.

Reducing substance abuse was the focus of the Community Mental Health annual breakfast Monday morning.

Booths were set up to show attendees the resources that are available to them in case they have substance abuse issues or know someone who does.

"That it is apart of behavioral health. It is a concern, but I think my most important message and the one that I want to get through is that recovery is possible. There is hope. Do not give up hope. If you want help, help is here," said Ericanne Spence, director of Substance Abuse Services and Corrections Mental Health.

The state also honored people who are working to fight substance abuse.

Michigan has seen a huge increase in the number of people hospitalized for opioid abuse in recent years.
