State trying to fix botched unemployment fraud investigations

Posted

The state of Michigan is trying to fix thousands of botched unemployment fraud investigations.

It has set up a hotline for roughly 40,000 people who may have been falsely accused of fraud. The number is 1-800-638-6372. It's open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. weekdays.

The Unemployment Insurance Agency plans to review every case.

A computer system designed to catch fraud ended up being wrong more than 90% of the time.
