LANSING, Mich. — You may be quizzed about some of your personal information soon and it's not a scam.

The Michigan Department of Treasury is reaching out to taxpayers to help confirm their identities in an effort to cut down on fraudulent tax filings.

The department might reach out to you with a letter in the mail or even an online quiz.

You can also call a number included in the letter if you don't feel comfortable taking the quiz online.

If you are unable to successfully complete the quiz, the Department requires all of the following documents from you and your spouse (if applicable) that are associated with your return:
- Copy of driver's license or Government issued picture ID
- W-2s, SSA-1099s, 1099s, K1s

Attach a copy of the letter you received to the front of your response and mail to:
Michigan Department of Treasury
Discovery and Tax Enforcement Division
P.O. Box 30771, Lansing, MI 48909
