A Brighton Lawmaker has introduced a resolution to impeach embattled Livingston County district court judge Theresa Brennan.

Republican State Rep. Lana Theis introduced House Resolution 399 on Wednesday. It calls for Brennan's impeachment, based on 'corrupt conduct in office and for crimes and misdemeanors.'

Numerous complaints have been made against Brennan by her co-workers, clients, lawyers, and the Judicial Tenure Commission.

Among the allegations against her, Brennan is accused of having an affair with a Michigan State Police lieutenant who was lead detective on a 2013 homicide case in her courtroom. The Michigan Attorney General's Office is investigating the case.

She is also accused of using her court staff for personal business, disregarding rules and judicial ethics, and disrespecting lawyers and litigants.

Brennan is scheduled to go before the full Judicial Tenure Commission on Oct. 1. Her caseload was removed in June.

The impeachment resolution is attached on the right side of the page.

According to the State Constitution, if the resolution passes by simple majority in the house, three representatives will prosecute the impeachment before the State Senate.
