State Police hold Homicide School

Suppose you got assigned to solve a murder - would you know what to look for and what questions to ask?

Most people wouldn't, which is why the State Police hold an annual Homicide School to train up and coming detectives.

It focuses on the proper ways to collect evidence and talk to witnesses.

"This is the best place to make your mistakes. Make them in a training scenario rather than out in real life. But we're still going to make mistakes, we're only human and we learn from them as we go," says Detective/Sergeant Fabian Suarez of the State Police.

Wednesday's scenario involves a death initially reported as a suicide. The students had to find the evidence that proves it was a homicide and then eliminate suspects until they identify the killer.
