Posted

Michigan State Police arrested 16 people Monday afternoon for trespassing. Police say the refused to leave state property.

A group of 140 protesters left a demonstration at the Captiol and walked over to the Grand Tower at around 2:40pm. Police say some marched in front of the building, but others blocked the building's entrances and exits.

Police say at 3:10pm a response to an unrelated medical situation inside the building was delayed because of the protests. At 3:20pm 16 people went inside the building's main entrance and protested inside the lobby. Police say they asked them to leave the building, and told the group's leader that they could stay outside but could not be inside.

At 3:50pm, according to police, 16 people were arrested when they refused to leave the building. They were taken to the Lansing City jail.
