LANSING, Mich. — Michigan drivers may see in an increase in the cost of registering a vehicle due to the included state parks passport fee.

Changes in legislation now include the price of the state parks passport automatically into vehicle registration.

The state park passport costs $11 for a vehicle and $6 for a motorcycle each year when the driver's license plate is renewed.

If someone purchases the passport at the state park instead of during registration there is an additional $5 convenience fee.

Those who do not want the pass for vehicles would have to elect to waive the fee instead.

Supporters of the bill said it will help boost funding for state parks.

The legislation has been referred to a House committee.
