About 500 people living in Michigan wrongly accused of unemployment fraud are still owed money, the state says.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel made a public appeal Thursday for help with finding those who are still owed a refund.

An audit uncovered between 2013 and 2015, a state computer system run by former Gov. Rick Snyder's administration wrongly accused about 40,000 people of cheating to get unemployment benefits.

They were forced to repay the money, along with substantial penalties.

So far, The state says it has reversed 70 percent of unemployment benefit fraud cases and refunded $20.8 million after people were wrongly accused of collecting excessive benefits.

Officials are asking anyone who is owed a refund from a claim made in 2013-2015 from the Unemployment Insurance Agency to fill out a form by clicking here.
