Wednesday marked the first day of "lent" on the Christian Calendar.
It's forty days of fasting and abstinence leading up to Easter.
This is also known as Ash Wednesday.
The day that Christians are reminded of Mortality and hear the phrase, "from dust you came and to dust you shall return"' as ashes are smudged onto their foreheads.
The season of "lent" calls on Christians to fast, pray and give to the needy.
