Starbucks employees have come up with a plan to help feed the hungry.

The company says it will donate uneaten leftover food from its more than 7,000 locations to U.S. food banks.

The goal is to provide 5 million meals in 2016. Starbucks is also looking at ways to keep the food fresh until it's eaten.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture up to 40% of food is wasted in the United States.
