LANSING, Mich. — The fate of a plan to re-open the federal government lies in the hands of the U.S. Senate and Michigan's Senator Debbie Stabenow is calling on her colleagues to pass it.
Immediately after the house passed the legislation late Thursday night, Senator Stabenow tweeted, "The government shutdown is hurting Michigan and our country. It is forcing thousands of border agents and TSA officers to work without pay."
Stabenow also says the shutdown is threatening funding for the great lakes.
She's urged the Senate to pass the legislation and for President Trump to sign it.
Thursday night's measure passed by the Democratic controlled house does not address funding for President Trump's border wall with Mexico.
The President says he will veto any bill that doesn't include funding for border security and Senate Republicans say they won't vote on anything unless President Trump gives his approval.
Republicans control the senate.
President Trump is expected to meet with some Democratic lawmakers on Friday.
Sen. Debbie Stabenow✔@SenStabenowThis government shutdown is hurting Michigan and our country. It is forcing thousands of border agents and TSA officers to work without pay, creating instability for our farmers, and threatening funding for our Great Lakes.
