The price for the most popular brand-name drugs has risen by 208-percent, according to AARP.
Thursday morning, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow is scheduled to talk about a bill package aimed at lowering the cost of prescription drugs.
The first bill would allow consumers to know the lowest price they can pay for their medication over the counter at a pharmacy.
The second bill would allow the Secretary of Health and Human Services to directly negotiate with drug companies for price discounts for their drugs.
The third bill would authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to permit wholesalers, licensed U.S. pharmacies and individuals to import drugs from licensed Canadian sellers that are manufactured at facilities approved by the FDA, according to a news release.
Thursday's press conference is scheduled to take place at Sparrow Health Center at 2909 E. Grand River Ave. Ste. 103, Lansing, Michigan at 9:30 a.m.
