St. Johns police to move into old church by the fall

Posted

The city of St. Johns will be moving their operations for their police into a new building.

They recently acquired a former church that was used for the Free Methodist on 409 S. Whittemore Street for their operations.

The current building was established in 1981 and the city says it no longer meets the needs of the department.

A search for a new site was completed in 2002 but re-started in 2017.

Properties that were considered were presented to the city commission.

The church is very close in size to the current square footage needed for the department and was able to purchased for "a fraction of the cost" of a new building.

They hope to make the transition and move into the new facility by September 2018.
