Spring cleaning set for Lansing parks

LANSING, Mich. — Temperatures are warming up in Mid-Michigan but the extra sunshine is shedding light on an ugly problem.

As FOX 47's Cryss Walker reports, neighbors on Lansing's east side say trash is piling up and becoming an eyesore at a local park.

Hunter Park in Lansing is known for its green space, pathways and outdoor water activities.

“The pool and stuff and it looks awesome and so to have to see the trash it makes Lansing look bad”, said Kristi Bicy who lives behind Hunter Park.

On the edge of the park near the Holmes entrance trash is littered along the fence leaving a messy blemish in a serene place.

“I've seen trash”, said Hayden Comstock, a nearby resident.

“I think it comes down from the freeway on the back loop of the park. Sometimes I see alcohol bottles broken on the bench.”

Lansing city officials told FOX 47 during the winter months parks are difficult to maintain due to snow covered grounds, leaving them with debris at the start of spring.

City crews are currently getting parks ready and areas with facilities are a top priority.

There is no exact date scheduled for clean-up at Hunter Park but Lansing's maintenance staff say they're aware of the problem.
