Spirit Halloween, Sparrow make hospital stay less scary for kids

Posted

Hospitals can be a scary place for kids, but on Wednesday, Spirit Halloween and the staff at Sparrow Hospital helped make it a little less frightening.

The Halloween retailer threw a costume party for some of Sparrow's youngest patients.

They got to decorate pumpkins, create masks, and paint their faces. The event catered to kids who won't be able to leave the hospital to pick out their own costumes this year.

"So it gives us the opportunity to bring the costumes to them, and let them transform from whatever is going on in their life right now to a character of their choice," said Kristina Matteone, Spirit Halloween district sales manager.

Since its beginning, the Spirit of Children program has raised more than $210,000 for Sparrow Hospital kids.
