LANSING, Mich. — Starting May 15, Sparrow Hospital will kick off a week-long event to raise awareness of what's called "Kangaroo Care."
The event is called Kangaroo-A-Thon, and it's hosted by Sparrow's Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU).
The purpose is to promote skin-to-skin contact between a parent and newborn.
The hospital says the benefits of Kangaroo Care include improved sleep, breastfeeding production, and faster weight gain.
Kangaroo-A-Thon begins at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
