One person is in critical condition, another under arrest Saturday after a high-speed chase through Berrien and Van Buren Counties.

According to Van Buren County Central dispatch, they received word from Berrien County Dispatch that Berrien County Police were chasing a suspect and about to cross over into Van Buren County. The driver of a 2019 gray Chrysler 300 was heading east on I-94 at speeds well over the limit. The driver, a Detroit man, eluded Baroda-Lake Police, but was quickly found by Berrien County police.

The car crossed over into Van Buren County on County Road 362, then turned north onto County Road 687 where he lost control of the car and slammed into an aluminum utility pole. The passenger side was severely damaged in the crash.

The passenger, a 22-year-old Detroit woman, was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The driver was treated at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph and released into police custody on both Felony and Misdemeanor charges. Officials in Wayne County placed a hold on the driver for an outstanding warrant.
