A body recovered by South Haven Area Emergency Services on Saturday is believed to be that of a Sept. 6 drowning victim.

SHAES announced Sunday that the "body believed to be the victim of the Sept. 6 drowning off South Haven’s South Beach was recovered by SHAES on Saturday. The recovery occurred off the city’s North Beach."

The South Haven Police Department said an autopsy will be conducted to confirm positive identification.

The family of 18-year-old Brandon Chambers, who had been missing since disappearing in Lake Michigan on Sept. 6, posted the following statement, in part, on Facebook:

"The people in South Haven have been wonderful to us. The love, care and guidance shown to us by the various agencies as well as the neighbors and friends of friends made our devastation bearable.

"We now have some amazing new friends, Craig, Chris, Connie, Mary Anne... I don't even know how to convey our thanks.

"Nate, Brandon, Officer Carlotta, Jim, so many officers whose name I didn't get... from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

"To our family and friends, thank you for the food, hugs, tears, donations to help with expenses and help with the animals. I don't know what we would have done without all of you."
