Some homeowners want to do away with mandatory inspection fee

Some people who live in Barry and Eaton Counties want to get rid of a mandatory inspection fee for people who are selling their homes.

The "TOST" program requires homeowners, with on site wells, and sewage systems, to get an inspection before the property can be transferred to a new owner.

The inspection costs around $400. Some claim the program is just a money-maker for the health department.

Health officials say the inspection protects home buyers, but they are willing to work on a compromise. A decision is expected early next year.
