Soccer field dedicated to fallen police officer

BROOKLYN, Mich. (WSYM) - Over 200 people gathered Saturday afternoon in Jackson County to dedicate a soccer field to a fallen police officer.

The soccer field at Columbia Center High School in Brooklyn will now be known as the “Chad P. Dermyer Memorial Soccer Field.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to officially dedicate the space.

Dermyer was a Virginia State Police trooper who was killed in the line of duty. He was was shot by James Brown inside a Greyhound Bus Station following a training exercise.

"Great personality, very approachable, very low key, even keeled, great work ethic," Jackson Police Chief Matt Heins said describing his former officer in a 2016 interview with FOX 47 News.

Dermyer grew up in Jackson and worked for Jackson City Police.

The honor guard presented colors at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
