It's not the kind of day 12-year-old Nicholas Franco expected.
"Snow day to me is about like having fun, messing around, sleeping in," said Nicholas.
Instead of going to school, he went to the museum with his three year old cousin, grandfather, and aunt who happened to have the day off.
"We were learning about electricity and different ways of bubbles," explained Nicholas.
But it wasn't as fun for his parents who both had to work.
"Snow days affect me because I have to find out whether or not my child needs to have somebody to watch her," said Monica Franco., Nicholas' aunt.
Especially when they sometimes don't find out until the last minute.
"Turn on the news and make sure I didn't have to take her to school this morning," said Franco.
"Other parents you know today Okemos I know closed their child care, so knowing last minute that there's no school really kind of puts a hinder on their day," said Nicole Haugen who brought her six-year-old to the movies.
Parents say while snow days can be a hassle, especially when it comes to getting off work to pick up your kids, it's also a great time to bond with them.
"Get out and do something. Enjoy every moment," said Denise Nelson. "Whether it's even at home and stuff and hanging out and doing stuff at home."
To spend some quality time with the family.
"Do something special on snow days cause it's a special thing that doesn't happen too often," said Haugen.
And when it does happen, all they can do is work around it.
