It's tough to be a good neighbor if the conditions aren't that good.

Bob Pena is one of Lansing's "Snow Angels." He lives on the Northeast side, and has been shoveling his and other sidewalks throughout his neighborhood.

He's also been checking on people who may not be able to leave their home. It doesn't matter if they're too old or too sick, Bob checks in to see if they need water, supplies or food.

"We enjoy the snow, but we realize that it's hard for them to get through that," he said. "So we're just checking on neighbors. It's part of the community, and neighborhoods are better when they look out for each other."

Patrice Laporte is stuck at home, with her dog Baxter, because of the weather. She says that hearing from Bob gave her hope.

"I go to bed each night and I'm scared of what I'm going to dream and what I'm going to wake up to. Bob stops by to check and make sure I'm okay, I don't think like that. I went to bed thinking about how lucky I was to have someone care enough about me to do that. He doesn't know me. He's a neighbor."

15-year-old Conner Pochert is a sophomore at Dewitt High School. He likes to play football and other sports, hang out with friends and maybe do some homework in between. What do you do when you don't have school for four days? You plow your driveway and everybody else's.

"I remember watching my mom shovel when I was a kid, and how hard that was for her," he said. "I noticed my neighbors needed some help, because they both work and they have kids. We all help each other so I figured, why not go clear their driveway and sidewalk for them? It was pretty fun."

Conner tells FOX 47 News he's hoping for another day off on Friday, so he can hang out and maybe help plow some other people's driveways.
