A skimmer was found and removed from a gas pump at a station in Grass Lake Township, according to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The affected pump was at Clear Lake Service, 4400 Clear Lake Road, just north of I-94. Customers who've paid at the pumps there should check their statements for any questionable charges.
Skimmers are placed inside gas pumps and can red information off of credit and debit cards. Scam artists can often install them quickly without the staff noticing.
Once installed, they're impossible to see without opening the pump. The state has been doing more pump inspections as skimmers have gotten more common over the last few years.
