Silver Bells 5K continues to grow in its seventh year

LANSING, Mich. (WSYM) - The Silver Bells celebration continues into the weekend.

The 7th annual Silver Bells Charity 5K Run and Walk set off in downtown Lansing Saturday at the state capitol building.

Those in attendance were encouraged to wear holiday costumes. Prizes were awarded to those with the best ones.

Awards were also handed out to the top three finishers in each age group and all finishers received medals.

Organizers say the event is growing.

"This has grown every year, and now we're about a thousand people or over,” said Chris Holman, CEO of the Michigan Business Network. “It's really getting to be a pretty good size run and we're pretty pleased with that."

Money raised from the event will benefit Silver Bells in the City and the Chris and Louise Holman Foundation, which helps struggling families put Christmas presents under the tree.
