Do you know how to manage your money?
Local businesses and organizations gathered together Saturday for Show Me the Money Day - offering workshops and services on how to get a better handle on your finances.
The free event was created by the Asset Independence Coalition (AIC) with the goal of connecting people to resources available in the Greater Lansing area.
Mayor Virg Bernero says Show Me the Money Day is about financial awareness, literacy, and empowerment.
It began back in 2011 in Lansing and Flint with the goal of connecting people to free resources in the community.
"We noticed that people were not aware of what options were available to them," says David Reyes, Executive Director of the AIC.
The event attracted residents from all over Mid-Michigan who were ready to learn new insights into achieving greater financial security.
Dayshawn Lyons, participant of Show Me the Money, says being financial literate is very important especially as a college student at Michigan State University.
" You need to understand what you are signing," he said.
"I don't care if you are 15 or 70," Bernero said. "I't's never too late to get some financially literacy in your life."
"During the tax season, we want to may sure everyone is engaged with ... options for their financial health ," said Reyes.
Anyone with an income under $64,000, can call 2-1-1 for free tax services.
In 2016, Show Me the Money Day has helped more than 1,800 Michigan residents in 25 communities.
