What kind of grocery shopper are you? Do you bring a list or just throw things in the cart that look good?

Meijer is launching a new shopping incentive for customers called "Shop and Scan." It's a shopping checkout program that uses your phone and a mobile app.

Shoppers scan bar codes with their phone for products that they want to buy. The app will keep a running total for you so you can see how much you are spending or if you are going over budget. Then you put the item you want in your shopping bags already in your cart.

Once you are finished shopping, you just scan your phone at the self-checkout and pay. This eliminates taking all of the items you put into your cart, on a conveyor belt, then paying and having someone bag them all for you.

The new technology is free and works with the Meijer mobile app and can be used on both iPhone and Android phones.

During a test for the shopping experience, Meijer saw 25,000 customers take part in the program and use the app.

The program will be available in all Meijer stores by the end of the year.

"Shop and Scan" launched in all Lansing area stores today.
