Police in Jackson are investigating a shooting that appears to have started with a car chase, and ended in a crash.

Jackson police officers were dispatched to the area of N. Waterloo Street and W. North Street around 2:50 a.m. Sunday for a report of shots being fired. About 10 minutes later, officers were sent to a traffic crash near Ellery Avenue and Porter Street.

When police arrived to the crash, there was nobody in or around the vehicle, and officers saw there were three bullet holes in the rear of the vehicle. Later in the morning, a 21-year-old woman showed up at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital with a facial injury from the crash.

Deputy Chief Elmer Hitt said they believe the vehicle that was shot was being chased, lost control due to speeding and left the roadway and crashed. The woman that was in the vehicle claims she did not know what the altercation was over or the two people she was with.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black vehicle, possibly a Dodge Charger. There may have been three total subjects in the vehicle, Hitt said.

Anyone with information can contact the Jackson Police Department at 517-788-4100.
