Deputies and the Ingham County community gathered at the Ingham County Sheriff's Office Tuesday to honor former Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth.
Wriggelsworth's son, Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth, began the ceremony with a speech which announced the new name of the Ingham County Sheriff's Training Center. The center will now be called the Gene L. Wriggelsworth Training Center.
Scott Wriggelsworth said, "It feels amazing. It has been great for us as a family to traverse this journey 28 years as him as sheriff, me announcing a couple years ago and now me being elected sheriff and to really honor dad for his 28 years to Ingham County, 50 years in law enforcement. I think it's a fitting tribute."
Former Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth is the longest serving Sheriff in Ingham County History. He has two sons involved in the police force and a grandson who is considering this career path.
Former Sheriff Gene Wrigglesworth says, "Well it's a tremendous honor. It wasn't something I ever expected. Scott told me a couple of weeks ago he was going to do this and it floored me. Uh I figured once you were retired you're forgotten you know but clearly that's not the case. And uh as people walk through that door for years to come they are going to think who is this Wriggelsworth guy and they can look it up pretty easy."
