A teenager slipped through an unlocked back door and stole an occupied casket from a funeral home, according to Clinton County Sheriff Larry Jerue.

We first told you about the bizarre casket-stealing incident yesterday.

Jerue says the Smith Family Funeral Home in Ovid was expecting a flower delivery on the morning of November 5th. A worker unlocked the back door to let the florist in, and then left.

Within about a 20 minute window, the boy walked in and found an open casket with a body inside, according to Jerue. The teen closed the casket before wheeling it out the back door and onto the street. Jerue believes a passing car frightened the boy, who then abandoned the casket and ran off.

Jerue says nothing was stolen or damaged. At this point, the motive is unclear.

A witness described the suspect as a 13-15 year old white male, five foot six inches tall, wearing a brown camouflage coat with a hood and black pants.
