Mark Kelly Rhodus, 39, from Monroe was found unresponsive in his bunk on September 12, 2017 at around 4:00 a.m.
Wrigglesworth says the autopsy report showed that the cause of death was multiple drug intoxication. Some of the drugs in his system were prescribed to him, but others were not. The drugs include methadone, cocaine, and generic Wellbutrin. Mr. Rhodus was not prescribed methadone or wellbutrin at the time.
The only subject prescribed methadone in the cellblock at the time has been charged with delivery causing death by the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office. Police are looking for him.
The death has sparked a change in the policy and procedures of how prescribed medication is dispensed.
