MASON, Mich. (WSYM) - Ingham County Animal Control is working to process the nearly 100 cats taken from a home in Lansing last month.
Some of the cats will be put up for adoption next week. Others had to put be down because they were too sick to recover, and too sick to expose to other animals at the shelter.
Ingham County Animal Control Director John Dinon said, "A bunch of them were positive for feline leukemia so which number one, it made them sick, number 2 it's contagious to other cats so for their well being and for the safety of the other cats in the shelter, we had to euthanize them."
A total of 92 cats were taken from the home on Teel avenue. Many had fleas and upper respiratory problems. Two dogs were transferred to a rescue organization. They were too nervous around people for the shelter to take care of them.
